Naval Air Station (NAS) Oceana – NAS Oceana is home to the Navy’s 14 deployable Strike Fighter jet squadrons; they operate the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet, a twin-engine, supersonic, carrier-capable combat jet. NAS Oceana also houses a Strike Fighter Fleet Replacement Squadron, an adversary squadron, and a logistics squadron. Joint Base Langley-Eustis (JBLE) – Langley Air Force Base (AFB) and the U.S. Army Fort Eustis merged in 2010 to form JBLE. While most joint bases are usually co-located, Langley AFB is in Hampton, and Fort Eustis is 17 miles away in Newport News. The 633rd Air Base Wing (ABW), which was activated during the Vietnam War, is the host organization of JBLE; it serves both Air Force and Army units. Established in 1916, Langley AFB is one of the oldest facilities in the Air Force.
